Cetcip contains cetirizine, which is an antihistamine that blocks the action of histamine in allergic reactions, and is used to treat symptoms of allergic rhinitis (runny itchy nose and sneezing), allergic conjunctivitis (irritation and inflammation in the eye) and urticaria or hives (red itchy limps on the skin).

Cetcip general information

What is Cetcip used for?

Cetcip tablets 10mg are used to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergy, such as to pollen, also known as hay fever, and perennial allergy, such as to animal fur, mould and house dust mites, which cause allergic rhinitis with symptoms including nasal congestion, runny itchy nose, sneezing, tearing, itchy, red, and puffy eyes and problems sleeping.  Cetcip tablets 10mg are also used to relieve symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis, irritation and inflammation in the eye caused by hay fever; and allergic skin conditions like urticaria (hives), an allergic reaction of the skin, usually to a medicine, food, a bee or wasp sting, or direct contact with an allergen like latex; or chronic idiopathic urticaria, which is thought to be an autoimmune disease, with symptoms including red, raised and itchy lumps on the skin.  Cetcip tablets 10mg relieve symptoms of an allergic reaction but do not cure the allergy.

How does Cetcip work?

Cetcip tablets 10mg contain the antihistamine cetirizine, which blocks the action of histamine, a chemical released from mast cells, (cells involved in allergies) during an allergic reaction.  Histamine binds to H1 receptors in small blood vessels causing them to leak, allowing white blood cells and blood proteins into the tissues, causing tissue swelling and irritation.  Cetirizine in Cetcip tablets 10mg is an H1 receptor antagonist, and specifically binds to the H1 receptor blocking this histamine-mediated early phase of the allergic reaction, as well as having additional anti-allergic properties by reducing the migration of inflammatory cells and the release of inflammatory chemicals associated with the late allergic response.  Cetcip tablets 10mg reduce the symptoms of allergic rhinitis caused by the actions of histamine, like nasal congestion, itchy eyes, runny nose and sneezing, or the symptoms of urticaria (hives), like red, raised, itchy lumps on the skin.  Cetcip tablets 10mg are fast-acting (within 10-20 minutes) and have a long-lasting effect (up to 24 hours) and are non sedative, (does not cause drowsiness), because cetirizine does not enter the central nervous system.
