Kenozole-B Cream contains the antifungal ketoconazole and the anti-inflammatory corticosteroid beclometasone used together as a topical treatment for fungal infections of the skin and scalp, where there is inflammation.

Kenozole-B Cream general information

What is Kenozole-B Cream used for?

Kenozole-B Cream is a topical skin cream used as a topical treatment for fungal infections of the skin and scalp, where there are with inflammatory changes or a hypersensitivity reaction.  Kenozole-B Cream is effective against tinea, a dermatophyte fungus also known as ringworm that causes fungal infection in different parts of the body including, ringworm of the foot, also known as Athlete's foot (tinea pedis), the body (tinea corporis), the groin (tinea cruris or jock itch), and the scalp (tinea capitis).  Kenozole-B Cream 2% is also used to treat infection by the yeast fungus Malassezia, which causes Pityriasis versicolor, characterised by flaky discoloured patches that appear on the chest and back; also seborrhoeic dermatitis, a form of dermatitis or inflammation of the skin that affects mainly the scalp and face.  Kenozole-B Cream 2% is also effective against infection with  the yeast fungus Candida, which causes cutaneous candidiasis, characterised by itchy red rash on various parts of the body, usually in warm, moist creased areas of skin, like under the arms and in the groin.  Kenozole-B Cream helps relieve symptoms of fungal infection with inflammation, such as itching, redness, swelling, dryness, crusting, scaling and discomfort.

How does Kenozole-B Cream work?

Kenozole-B Cream contains the topical corticosteroid beclomethasone, which is a medium potency anti-inflammatory that is more potent than hydrocortisone and has anti-inflammatory, anti-pruritic and vasoconstrictive properties.  Beclomethasone in Kenozole-B Cream works by blocking the production of inflammatory chemicals, like prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which are hormone-like substances involved in the inflammatory process.  Beclomethasone in Kenozole-B Cream also narrows and constricts causes blood vessels that have become dilated (widened) and leaky allowing other inflammatory cells into the skin to escalate the inflammatory response.  This reduces symptoms of inflammation associated with fungal infection.  Kenozole-B Cream also contains ketoconazole, a synthetic broad-spectrum antifungal that is used to treat a variety of fungal infections.  Ketoconazole in Kenozole-B Cream 2% prevents growth of dermatophyte and yeast fungi by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an important component of fungal cell membrane that is not found in animal cells.  This results in altering the permeability of the fungal cell membrane causing it to become weakened, so that the cell contents to leak out, which kills the fungus, preventing the infection from spreading and relieving symptoms caused by the fungal infection, including pain and inflammation.  When used as a topical antifungal, no detectable ketoconazole enters the blood, reducing risk of systemic side effects.

What does Kenozole-B Cream contain?

Kenozole-B Cream contains the active ingredients Beclomethasone  dipropionate 0.025% (w/w) an antiinflammatory corticosteroid and ketoconazole 2% (w/w), a broad-spectrum antifungal that are used together to treat fungal infections with inflammation.  It also contains methyl paraben and propyl paraben as preservative.
