Zerostat VT Spacer with FlowGate valveZerostat VT Spacer general information
What is Zerostat VT Spacer used for?
Zerostat VT Spacer is a device that is used in combination with a metered dose inhaler (MDI) that delivers asthma medication directly into the lungs via an aerosol. The MDI may contain a "rescue" or “reliever” medication or a combination both and is propelled out of the container by a propellant, which forms an aerosol spray containing the medication. Zerostat VT Spacer, also known as a holding chamber, holds the medication for a few seconds after it has been released and slows down the delivery of the medication into the lungs. This helps improve the coordination needed to breathe in the aerosol after actuating (pressing down on) the MDI, also known as a puffer. Using Zerostat VT Spacer also reduces the amount of medication that is deposited in the mouth and throat, which can lead to irritation and infection like oral thrush. Zerostat VT Spacer is transparent spacer so that medication released by the MDI can be seen as it is released. It has a valve that allows medication to be held in the chamber during the exhalation phase, without any being lost from the chamber. This ensures a more consistent dose of medication is delivered with each actuation with minimal loss from the spacer device. Zerostat VT Spacer is also static-free, which means that more of the medication is inhaled and not left in the spacer. Aerosol medications inhaled with the help of a Zerostat VT Spacer are used to treat and manage asthma and to help relieve symptoms like wheezing, tightness of the chest and shortness of breath; also to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and chronic bronchitis.
How does Zerostat VT Spacer work?
Zerostat VT Spacer works by helping to coordinate the important sequence of actions required for optimal for drug delivery using a metered dose inhaler (MDI) containing asthma medication. This includes:
- pressing down on the actuator of the MDI when inhaling
- breathing in deeply as soon as the medication is released
- holding the medication in the lungs for a few seconds before releasing the breath
- exhaling
Zerostat VT Spacer for inhalation of asthma medication
Zerostat VT Spacer is a device that is used in combination with a metered dose inhaler (MDI) that delivers asthma medication directly into the lungs via an aerosol. The medication used is either a corticosteroid that blocks Inflammation, one of the underlying causes of asthma, reducing inflammation and swelling of the airways. The other medication used is a beta 2-agonist and bronchodilator that acts directly on the small airways of the lungs (bronchioles) to reduce bronchospasm (contraction or the airways). This allows the airways to open making it easier to breathe and removing symptoms of asthma, such as tightness of the chest, wheezing, cough and shortness of breath. Zerostat VT Spacer, also known as a holding chamber, holds the medication for a few seconds after it has been released and slows down the delivery of the medication into the lungs.
