Edronax general information

What is Edronax used for?

Edronax tablets 4mg are used for acute treatment of severe major depression and symptoms of depressive illness, including anxiety, loss of interest in usual activities, disturbed sleep, change in appetite, fatigue, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, difficulty thinking or concentrating, and recurrent thoughts of suicide.  Edronax tablets 4mg are also used as maintenance treatment for those who have responded to initial treatment for depression, to maintain clinical improvement.  Remission of acute symptoms of depression that affect daily activities and relationships with others, contributes to improvement of quality of life including, ability to function at work, in family, social life and in leisure activities.

How does Edronax work?

Edronax tablets 4mg contain reboxetine, an antidepressant belonging to the class of drugs known as Noradrenaline Reuptake Inhibitors (NRIs).  Reboxetine in Edronax tablets 4mg acts in the brain to correct the chemical imbalance caused by a lack of certain neurotransmitters (brain chemical that allows nerve cells to communicate) that is thought to be one of the major causes of depression and other mood disorders, particularly noradrenaline which is thought to be one of the most relevant neurotransmitters involved in depression.  Reboxetine in Edronax tablets 4mg is a highly selective and potent inhibitor of noradrenaline reuptake, which means that it blocks the re-uptake of noradrenaline from the synapse (the gap between nerve cells across which chemical messages are sent from one nerve cell to another).  If the re-uptake of noradrenaline by the first nerve cell (pre-synaptic) is blocked, this means that there is more neurotransmitter remaining for the receiving nerve cell (post-synaptic), which allows nerve cells to communicate with each other for longer.  Reboxetine in Edronax tablets 4mg also has a weak effect on serotonin reuptake but does not affect the uptake of dopamine.  It does not affect adrenergic or muscarinic receptors that are associated with cardiovascular, anticholinergic and sedative side effects of other antidepressant drugs.  The action of reboxetine in Edronax tablets 4mg helps relieve symptoms of depression by increasing the amount of noradrenaline in the brain, which in turn increases stimulation of nerve pathways that control mood.

What does Edronax contain?

Edronax tablets 4mg contains the active ingredient reboxetine mesilate, an antidepressant belonging to the class of drugs known as Noradrenaline Reuptake Inhibitors (SNRIs) used to treat symptoms of depression.  They also contain magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, silicon dioxide, crospovidone, calcium hydrogen phosphate.

Treating depression with Edronax

Edronax tablets 4mg contain reboxetine, an antidepressant belonging to the class of drugs known as Noradrenaline Reuptake Inhibitors (NRIs), used to treat symptoms of depression, including anxiety, loss of interest in usual activities, disturbed sleep, change in appetite, fatigue, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, difficulty thinking or concentrating and recurrent thoughts of suicide.  One of the major causes of depression is thought to be an imbalance of neurotransmitters (brain chemicals that allows nerve cells to communicate), particularly noradrenaline which is thought to be one of the most relevant neurotransmitters involved in depression.  Reboxetine in Edronax tablets 4mg works by specifically blocking the reuptake of noradrenaline from the synapse, or gap between nerve cells across which chemical messages are sent to allow nerve cell to communicate with each other.  By preventing the reuptake of noradrenaline by the first nerve cell (pre-synaptic) there is more neurotransmitter remaining for the receiving nerve cell (post-synaptic), so that nerve cells can communicate with each other for longer which increases stimulation of noradrenergic transmission, which is thought to be one of the most relevant mechanisms of action for relieving symptoms of depression.
