GENERAL INFORMATION
What is Trilostane used for?
Trilostane tablets 60mg are indicated for the treatment of Pituitary-dependent hyperadrenocorticism (Cushing's disease) in dogs and Adrenal-dependent hyperadrenocorticism in dogs. Trilostane tablets 60mg helps control the adrenal gland's excessive production of cortisol, a hormone released into the bloodstream during times of stress.
How does Trilostane work?
Trilostane tablets 60mg works by blocking the production of cortisol in the adrenal glands. Cortisol is a hormone that helps regulate stress responses, metabolism, blood pressure, and immune function.
In dogs with Cushing's disease (hyperadrenocorticism), the adrenal glands produce excessive amounts of cortisol. Trilostane tablets 60mg inhibits an enzyme involved in cortisol synthesis, which reduces cortisol production and helps restore hormone levels closer to normal.
As cortisol levels decrease, clinical signs of Cushing's disease may improve, including:
• Excessive thirst and urination
• Increased appetite
• Panting
• Hair loss
• Pot-bellied appearance
• Lethargy and weakness
Trilostane tablets 60mg controls the disease but does not cure it. Most dogs require lifelong treatment and regular veterinary monitoring to ensure cortisol levels remain within a safe range.
